Beauty Is Exactly What You Think
At Cast, we think a lot about beauty. What is beauty? What makes you think one thing or person is beautiful and another is not? Why do we even think about beauty in the first place?
Beauty is first and foremost an idea. An idea – a thought – begins from somewhere deep inside and is made up from personal experiences and aspirations. When we reach for things or label something that we consider worthy of being called beautiful or not, we seek to find an image or an embodied form for an idea that brings delight to our day.
A farmer who depends on the rain to nourish her crops and reap bountiful harvests will look up at the gathering clouds and think them a thing of beauty. A surfer riding the waves off the coast will relish the sun that beams down on her skin and wish for rain free days and starry nights.
Both see beauty in seemingly opposing forecasts.
As you create your life, think of the different ways that you find beauty or aspire to bring beauty into your life. Maybe the lip color you love to wear makes you feel more alive. Or maybe it’s knowing that your skin cream protects you from the sun while allowing you to feel natural and clean. Perhaps Coconut and Papaya lotion makes you feel more connected to the Earth and keeps you grounded during a hectic day.
As we expand our ideas and experience more of the world it is likely that our idea of beauty will expand, too.
By embracing the concept of beauty as an idea rather than as an identifiable form, it challenges you to see beyond only the world you know.
It may even open your eyes to see more of the beauty in you!
